| Nike + iPod Sport Kit | | Has anyone seen this item or used it, from Apple/iPod? I saw this online and it had these sweet freakin' red and black shoes. It looks cool but I can't find a price for all of it, I guess you buy the shoes and then buy the iPod sport kit for it? Anyone got a price check on Aisle 5? Ha ha.:)
Is it worth it? It looks cool but I don't know. I'm not usually all geeky about wanting something, so what you think? | |

| Does anyone have a Nike+ Ipod system? Problems with receiver? | | Just looking for a little help. I have searched everywhere for an answer to the famous, "Connect Receiver before beginnning workout" problem. If you are not famiiar with the Nike + accessory, it is a package which includes a sensor, that goes in your shoe and a receiver, which connects to the ipod nano. The sensor and receiver work together to let you know how fast or how far you have gone, or how many calories you have burned. It is kinda like having your own trainer. I am sure you have seen the commericals of the runner with Ok's 'Here we go again' and the women's voice over telling him he has 500 ft or whatever to his goal. Anyway, I keep hitting a brick wall with the error message and Apple has only offered the solution of going to an Apple store which for me is more than four hours away. Just looking for anyone out there who might have a suggestion or maybe even a solution!
thanks! | |
| | How the Nike + iPod Works | | The Nike + i pod Sport Kit essentially combines a portable music player with a pedometer -- two devices that runners have used for years. | |

| Nike+iPod Sports kit - Privacy risk or overblown hype | | So where's the privacy issue? The issue surrounds the fact that the transmitter uses a wireless signal to send information to the receiver. On its own that's not too bad, but the messages sent from the transmitter contain an unencrypted unique identifier specific to the transmitter which can be detected from 60 feet away, whether you want to be found or not (as long as you are moving). Because the signal from the transmitter isn't encrypted hooking up Nike+iPod receiver to a PC, gumstix computer or an iPod running Linux can allow unencrypted unique identifiers to be logged. This could allow specific individuals making use of an Nike+iPod Sports kit to the to be tracked. Now this isn't a huge "the sky is going to fall down" privacy risk - in fact, I think that leveraging a Nike+iPod Sports kit to do evil has some pretty big drawbacks (these include range, the fact that it doesn't transmit information about where the wearer is and the fact that the user has control over turning it off). But I think the possibility that this device could be used for evil might come as a surprise to many who bought it. As users of technology we need to be aware of the possible privacy risks... | |
